3rd Annual Recognition Celebration Honoring Women in Technology Award Nomination Form

The New Mexico Technology Council believes that inspiring more women to choose technology careers is critical to ensuring that our country can compete in the global economy, that we maximize opportunities for innovation, and that the technology industries are as diverse and creative as the people it serves. Statistics reveal the need for women in technology:

• Women make up a quarter of today's U.S. IT workforce, down from 37 percent in the mid-1980s. (http://www.infoworld.com/d/developer-world/activism-provides-competitive-advantage-it-886).

• The percentage of women corporate officers of Fortune 500 technology companies is 8.9 percent. (http://www.diversitycentral.com/business/diversity_statistics.html#fem_workforce).

• In technology classes, stereotypes about appropriate careers for girls, a lack of female role models and the absence of basic career information dampened girls' interest in technology-related careers (http://www.iterasi.net/openviewer.aspx?sqrlitid=cv6cswdn6eufixjmbn74ug).

Our Recognition Celebration honoring Women in Technology is aimed at recognizing the exceptional women in the State of New Mexico who are working in a technology field and who encourage other women to pursue careers and leadership roles in technology.

Nominate a woman in technology if she meets any of the following criteria:

• Women in a technology field who exemplify volunteer service in the community as measured by service to community organizations, leadership in community efforts and/or financial support of community programs.
• Women in a technology field who have had a sustained career commitment to mentoring, a significant positive impact on their mentees' careers, and through their mentees have advanced research and development, entrepreneurship and/or growth of young women in a field of technology.
• Women in a technology field who exemplify an entrepreneurial spirit as measured by innovative business practices, superior use of technology and sustainability in a field of technology.
• Women in a technology field whose efforts have blazed a trail in a technology profession, and whose pioneering contributions and been outstanding and unique.

To nominate a woman for recognition at the 3^rd Annual Recognition Celebration honoring Women in Technology, complete the following form.

Please explain in detail why you have chosen to nominate this person for a Women in Technology recognition award. Remember, this is a recognition award, so if the nominee has participated or led several worthy projects describe them all. Also, please provide reasonable supporting evidence of the nominee's contributions to the projects cited. Reference online materials or attach additional documents if necessary. Please note, the nominee may be contacted by Judges for additional information, and she will also be notified of her nomination so that she can plan on attending the event.

The deadline for submission is Friday, October 1, 2010. Awardees will be notified prior to the November 4, 2010 event and receive two free tickets.
